Association Election Procedures

APPOINTMENT OF RETURNING OFFICER OR THE ELECTIONS COMMITTEE
a) The Executive shall appoint a Returning Officer and/or an Elections Committee, to
oversee the Elections to the Association.
b) Only persons who have no direct interest in the outcome of the elections shall be eligible
to be appointed to serve as a Returning Officer or as members of the Elections
Committee, respectively.
c) The Returning Officer shall, prior to the holding of the elections, read out the relevant
articles/sections of the Constitution governing elections of office bearers to the
Association.
ELIGIBILITY FOR VOTING & FOR SEEKING FOR ELECTIVE OFFICES
a) Only full members of Association who are paid up and are present at the General
Assembly will be entitled to vote during elections.
b) Affiliate, and Honorary Members and Observers attending the General Assembly of the
Association may remain in the room, but shall not vote.
OTHER GUIDELINES/ RESTRICTIONS GOVERNING ELECTIONS OF THE
ASSOCIATION
a) That continuity, gender balance, experience, expertise/ability and good character of the
candidates for elective positions are taken into consideration.
b) That all persons who are elected to the Executive are persons of high integrity, with
proven track records in leadership, management, active participation and the
advancement of the Chemical Engineering field.
c) That the Treasurer is a person possessing knowledge and experience in financial matters.
d) The General Assembly shall, from time to time, determine and spell out such other
eligibility criteria for persons who may be elected to the Executive as it shall deem fit.

ELECTION OF EXECUTIVE MEMBERS
a) Persons eligible to be elected as Executive Members must be full Members of the
Association. However, representatives will be voted into office on their merit and their
commitment to serve the Association.
 THE ELECTION OF THE EXECUTIVE MEMBERS SHALL BE IN THE
FOLLOWING MANNER:
1. Elections shall be done by all eligible members to determine the Executive (The
President, Vice President, Treasurer Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Publicity Secretary,
Deputy Publicity Secretary, Legal Advisor); these members shall possess full
membership.
2. The Returning Officer shall announce candidates seeking election to the Executive
Positions.
3. Each candidate for the specific position shall have at least five (5) minutes each to
introduce himself/herself and his/her credentials to the Members and brief the
electorate about themselves and why they think they are the best candidate for that
specific position.
4. Thereafter, voting by Secret Ballot will be undertaken by all eligible members.
5. The Returning Officer assisted by the polling assistant shall count the votes cast for
each candidate for a specific position. The nominee with the largest number of votes
for the specific position shall assume that executive position of the Executive.
6. The Returning Officer assisted by the polling assistant shall count the votes cast for

for the specific position shall assume that executive position of the Executive.
